Mrs. Fontanne's Class
December
Students experimented with building simple circuits and switches. They learned about open and closed circuits. Finally, they used a simple circuit, and two open circuits to create question boards. The students shared their question boards with other classrooms throughout the school and taught them the difference between opened/closed circuits, what proton, neutrons/electrons were and safety hints when around electricity.

Mrs. Fontanne’s Grade 5 classroom began the year with a short story by Alice Walker called Finding the Greenstone.
Mrs. Fontanne’s Grade 5 classroom began the year with a short story by Alice Walker called Finding the Greenstone.
The short story’s overall message is about how positive behavior allows your heart to shine bright, whereas negative behavior can cause the opposite. In the story the ‘green stones’ represent a person’s heart and spirit. Therefore, Mrs. Fontanne’s grade 5 students created an artwork to represent their own kindness and added an actual ‘green rock’ to symbolize their hearts.
